PulseSecure VPN Solution Retired May 30th

The PulseSecure VPN Solution will be retired as of May 30th, 2020. CSU, Chico has migrated to Palo Alto Networks GlobalProtect VPN as our VPN solution for remote access.

Most VPN users, and all campus managed computers, have already moved to GlobalProtect. If you require assistance getting set up for GlobalProtect, please contact IT Support Services (ITSS) at (530)898-HELP (4357).

For or more information on using VPN and installation instructions for the Global Protect VPN Client, please see: www.csuchico.edu/vpn

Phishing

Targeted Phishing Email

A targeted phishing email was recently sent to campus email accounts. It requested people reply with their username and password to “confirm your California State University, Chico Account login/usage Frequency.” ITSS will never ask you to email your password.

If you replied to this email go to Account Center in the Portal and reset your password.

Zoom

Update Zoom for easier, more secure meetings

Last week, Zoom released an important update to help make meetings more private and secure.

Please update to the latest version of Zoom.

  • For computers that are managed by ITSS, the latest version should be installed automatically.
  • If you installed Zoom yourself, you can download the latest version.

The most noticeable change for meeting hosts is a new “Security” icon in Zoom meeting controls, which gives hosts easy control over essential meeting controls, including waiting rooms. Starting April 20th, waiting rooms will be on by default for all new meetings.

The new Security icon gives hosts and co-hosts an all-in-one place to quickly:

The Security icon replaces the Invite button in the meeting controls. The Invite button has been moved to the Participants panel, and hosts can add additional guests there.

More information: Zoom published a video tour of the new security toolbar icon.

Exchange Client Issues

In an effort to reduce phishing and account compromises some legacy authentication methods were disabled this morning. These older authentication methods don’t support multi factor authentication (Duo).

Some clients, particularly on mobile devices, may still be using these authentication methods and will need to be reconfigured. If you are experiencing issues connecting to Exchange email, removing and re-adding the account on the device should resolve the issue.
