All services are expected to be fully operational no later than 12:00 noon that same day.

Security, Wireless

Wireless Security Requirements for Macintosh and Windows Systems

Beginning July 1st, campus wireless security standards will begin to be enforced for Macintosh and Windows devices. The ClearPass OnGuard Network Access Control (NAC) client, included with the Eduroam configuration, will verify the health of your computer, and ensures it complies with campus security standards before being granted access to the network.

Macintosh and Windows computers will be required to have:

  •  An anti-virus program installed with live protection enabled
  • Automatic system updates enabled
  • A supported operating system (Windows 7+, Mac OS 10.8+)

If these requirements are not met your computer will not be able to access the campus wireless network beginning July 1st. More information on Network Access Control is available at http://www.csuchico.edu/nac.

Security

June Desktop Security Updates Approved for Campus Computers

The majority of campus Windows desktops will have updates sent to them in the next day or so. For security reasons, campus computers are given an installation deadline for monthly patches. The installation deadline this month is Thursday, June 25th at 5:00pm. On Thursday at 5:00pm, if you have not installed this month’s patches, they will automatically begin installing, and when done, may reboot your computer. If your computer is off at the time of the deadline, updates will begin installing the next time you log in, and when done, may reboot your computer.

We highly recommend that you install the patches as soon as you are prompted to do so, before the installation deadline. This way, you can be present when the computer needs to restart and you have more control over the restart timing, allowing you to save any open work. If you ignore the update messages you run the risk of updates being applied while you are not present and potentially having your computer restart and possibly even losing unsaved work.

Some non-Microsoft patches require web browsers to be closed, and may fail otherwise. If you have any updates fail, try closing any open browser windows and install again.

Maintenance, Training

DTS and SkillSoft Maintenance

Tomorrow, June 18, the CSU, in partnership with CSU, Chico, will complete a project to expand employee access to online training content offered by the CSU.  During this time, the Development and Training System (DTS) will be offline, as well as our campus access to CSU SkillSoft e-courses while the necessary changes are applied in both systems.  It is anticipated that both systems will be operational on June 19.

No action is required of you.  The campus DTS will resume communications regarding required training once the system is back online.

If you have any questions, please contact IT Support Services at x4357.

ID Cards

Wildcat ID Card Program is re-locating Monday, June 8

On Monday, June 8, the Wildcat ID Card Program is being re-located from its temporary location in the Bell Memorial Union (BMU 002) to Meriam Library (MLIB 142) within ITSS.

After review of the Wildcat ID Card Program and future tools becoming available for additional use, the function of ID Card issuance and photo taking will move to Meriam Library (MLIB 142) within Information Technology Support Services (ITSS). This should allow for the expansion of the number of hours available for obtaining an ID card in the future. It will also bring additional support through cross-training of ITSS staff while aligning with campus Information Technology processes and security controls.

Currently, the functions of the ID Card system administration and Card Reader support and configuration is managed by Applications and Data Services (ADS) where Sally Zhang (system administrator) has become a very strong team member within ADS and will continue in this roll. We have a number of enhancements and upgrades to the software system coming over the summer months and look forward to growing this application’s use on campus. As the enhancements roll-out we will send out further communications.
