Services Impacted: Guest Wireless
During this maintenance window, firewalls serving guest wireless and the campus network border will be upgraded to improve system security and stability. Guest wireless network services will experience a ten minute outage during the upgrade process; no other interruptions are expected due to system redundancy.
Since the switch to Account Center, “generic account” sponsors have not been receiving notifications before those account passwords have been expiring.
We have put in place a new process very similar to the pre-Account Center password expiration notifications. Starting on July 23rd, every Monday any generic account whose password will expire within the next three weeks will receive a notification of the impending expiration. This means three notifications will be sent out prior to password expiration. If the account is mail enabled the account itself will receive the notification. If the account is “domain only” with no mailbox the sponsor for the account will receive the notifications instead. Instructions for how to change a generic account password will be included in the notification email.
We received multiple reports this morning of the following phishing email targeting the campus:

If you received this email please delete it without clicking on any links. If you clicked on the link and provided your credentials your account has been compromised. If you suspect your account was compromised you should immediately go to Account Center in the CSU, Chico Portal and reset your password.
There were a few indicators that this was a phishing email:
If you are unsure of the validity of an email you can hover your mouse over any links without clicking on them to see the URL. A URL that does not match the content of the email should be considered suspicious.

Network services at Brice House will experience downtime as the firewall serving the location is upgraded to a new and more capable model. Network services are expected to see approximately 30 minutes of downtime during the upgrade process.
