Voicemail Service Interruption

UPDATE: Telecommunication Services has restored voicemail service and we do not anticipate further service interruption. The cause of the outage was an inadvertently disabled network adapter on the new voicemail server.

Soon after the migration of the voicemail system was complete, the service became unavailable to users. Technicians are working on the issue with no estimated time for repair. Currently, calls are not being routed to voicemail, and voicemail messages cannot be retrieved. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

An announcement greeting will be in place during the migration informing callers of the outage. Users are encouraged to delete any unnecessary voicemails prior to Dec. 21st.

Phone System Maintenance

In preparation for the upcoming major upgrade to our campus voice solution, also known as the Avaya Private Branch Exchange (PBX), our vendor will need to perform maintenance to the current PBX. This maintenance is not expected to cause a major outage, but could cause brief interruptions to campus voice services. This maintenance will occur June 22 through June 26, during non-work hours, from 7 PM to 9 PM, to minimize disruption to campus users.

Our major PBX upgrade is now planned for Saturday, July 18, from 8 AM to 5 PM. During this time, the campus voice solution will not be available. Once the upgrade is complete, we will begin implementing our voice migration strategy, deploying voice solutions department by department. Until your department has been migrated, your current voice solution will operate as usual.

Common Network Infrastructure Project

This summer, Computing and Communications Services will be replacing network electronics in all State-owned/operated buildings, as part of the Common Network Initiative program funded by the Office of the Chancellor. This project will replace aging Cisco network switches with state-of-the-art equipment from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise. These new switches will offer faster connectivity speeds in many areas of the campus and new power features to ease deployment of wireless access points, phones, and cameras, along with a dramatically lower cost and carbon footprint.

The project is in the final planning phase, but deployment of the new equipment is likely to begin in late June and complete late July or early August of 2016. Due to the vast scope of the project, cutover to the new equipment will take place during normal business hours, requiring up to a couple of hours of network downtime for affected users. To ease this burden, the detailed schedule will be posted as soon as it is available, and affected users can expect both email reminders and signs at building entrances to make sure everyone is aware of upcoming network changes.

More information about the project can be found at www.csuchico.edu/cni, and the detailed schedule will be posted to this location as soon as it is available.
