Emergency Network Maintenance

Due to the network outage the campus experienced last Sunday night, emergency network maintenance is required to resume the redundancy for our internet connection from CENIC, our internet service provider. The emergency network maintenance will occur Saturday morning from 3:00 – 4:00 AM. We do not anticipate any interruption of services, but if we do, it may impact some services or websites on or off campus like the learning management system, email, campus portal or internet access as a whole. We apologize for any interruptions this may cause, but it is imperative the emergency network maintenance occurs so we can avoid further internet service interruptions.

Network Refresh Project

The Division of IT will begin upgrading network ports in all state-supported buildings from February 27 – March 17. The crew is working on an overnight schedule in an effort to avoid any network or power outages during normal operating hours.

A complete installation schedule for each building can be found here: https://www.csuchico.edu/ccsv/projects/network-projects/network-refresh-project.shtml

The campus community can look forward to internet connection speeds being 2.5 or 5x faster as well as more power for our electronic equipment. If you experience any network issues during normal business hours, please submit a request at support.csuchico.edu or contact IT Support Services.

Holt & AJH Network Maintenance

As part of the Physical Science building demolition, underground fiber optic cables serving that area of campus need to be relocated to a new facility. This multi-phase project is being staged to minimize campus network impact, but affected buildings will experience downtime at some point during the migration.

Building cutovers have been scheduled for weekends during intersession to try and minimize impact as much as possible. Service interruptions will occur between 8AM and 8PM, possibly for the entire duration of the maintenance window:

1/15/22 — Holt – all wired/wireless networks, campus telephones

1/16/22 — Aymer J. Hamilton, Gateway Science Museum — all wired/wireless networks, campus telephones

Blue light emergency phones and cellular service will not be affected by these operations.

Border Firewall Migration

Scheduled Maintenance: 8:00 AM – 12:00 noon Saturday, July 25th
Services Impacted: VPN, Portal, etc.

On Saturday, July 25th, between 8:00 AM and 12:00 noon, the campus network will migrate to new border firewall platforms. These new systems bring significant capacity increases to the campus (particularly for GlobalProtect VPN), as well as new security features to better protect out systems and services.

During this transition, all campus Internet connectivity will see interruption. Downtime will be kept to a minimum, but significant outages may occur if unexpected problems arise during the migration. All campus-based services, including VPN, Portal, remote desktop access will be unreachable from off-campus.

Many campus systems and services are no longer housed on-campus, and will not experience downtime due to this work, including the campus web, Learn, CMS, email, and any other cloud-based services.
